At the Cleantech Task Force @LG NOVA, an innovation unit for LGE located in Santa Clara, CA, our vision is to make Life Good for people, their communities and the planet by empowering accessible, affordable, sustainable energy lifestyles for people, companies and public organizations. Our objective is to build new business opportunities for LGE that realize this vision.
We will be launching a new cleantech startup company powered by LG and are looking for a visionary and passionate CTO to lead technology strategy and innovation for this new startup that will be supported by LG NOVA (this role is not with LGE). You will be responsible for developing and implementing cutting-edge solutions that address the global challenges of climate change, energy security, and sustainability, with practical product implementation that meets market needs.
What You’ll Do
As the CTO, you will oversee the research and development, engineering, and product teams and ensure that our products and services meet the highest standards of quality, performance, and customer satisfaction. You will work closely with the CEO of this new startup supported by LG NOVA and the broader team to identify opportunities for innovation and growth, and to align the technology roadmap with business goals.
What You’ll Bring
To be successful in this role, you should have a strong background in cleantech energy, such as renewable energy generation, storage, distribution, and efficiency. You should also have proven experience as a CTO or a similar leadership role in a technology-driven organization, with a track record for build and scale. You should have the capacity as a thought leader who executes on the product vision and leads its team to do so on time and budget, and with excellence. You should be able to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences, inspire and motivate your teams, know how to manage ambiguous situations, work effectively across teams, thrive under pressure, and execute in such a way as to bring the best out of the people with whom they work.
Responsibilities
Location: Currently, this can be a remote or hybrid position with business travel as needed. If this position transitions to full time, presence in or relocation to California may be requested.

Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the company’s technology strategy and roadmap in line with the business objectives and market opportunities and toward competitive advantage
- Be an active contributor to product development conversations with the business team
- Lead the research and development, engineering, dev ops and product teams and from ideation through development to delivery, provide guidance and direction on technical issues and challenges, and be responsible for every step to execution
- Develop a detailed product development roadmap following the agile process, defining stories, sprints and milestones
- Monitor and measure the performance and impact of our technology initiatives and projects
- Possess a creative business and technology mindset that ignites innovation, collaboration and creative problem solving within the CTO group and Cleatech unit
- Work closely with business and product development team to determine the product to be developed
- Determine how best to accomplish these objectives and work with product and project managers to formulate integrated plans for execution within the CTO group and across the Cleantech unit
- Build respected rapport and credibility with Cleantech unit leads
- Establish and maintain high standards of quality, reliability, security, and scalability for our technology platforms and systems
- Lead the preparation of related budgets, forecasts, and performance metrics, ensuring optimal return on investment and profitability
- Manage time, budget and staff, technology needs and other resource constraints efficiently, being able to adjust project plans as needed
- Identify staff needs, manage resourcing budget, identify and hire best people for product development roles
- Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners, vendors, customers, investors, and regulators
- Represent the company as a thought leader and spokesperson in the cleantech energy sector
- Bring expertise in the cleantech industries for the development of best of breed and wholly innovative product
- Determine and develop or lead development of communications tools, presentations etc. for internal and external (Board) stakeholders
- Develop documentation and presentations as needed for external presentations to investors, sales prospects, government agencies and other stakeholders as needed
- Identify market and product trends as well as new technologies to monitor and possibly incorporate
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree or PhD is a plus; additional degrees showing diversity of mind a plus
- Minimum 10 years leading product and engineering teams
- Minimum 10 years of experience in cleantech energy or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a CTO or a similar leadership role in a technology-driven organization
- Expertise in renewable energy technologies, such as solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, biomass, or hydrogen
- Experience in developing and deploying scalable cloud-based solutions using modern technologies and frameworks
- Experience in applying data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or blockchain to solve complex problems
- Experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills
- Proficient in managing teams through agile software development
- Passion for building solutions that support a new distributed energy technology marketplace with the industry experience to support the vision
- High organizational skills including attention to detail
- Proficient in Atlassian (Confluence, JIRA, Bitbucket) Agile tool suite
- Passionate about cleantech energy and its potential to transform the world
