The team and role

The Digital Product teams are mission-centric, cross-functional software delivery teams. They work remote-first and create, ship, and run air up’s digital products and systems. This includes evolving our ecommerce platform to keep up with our strong growth, as well as creating new digital experiences from scratch.

As a Fullstack Software Engineer, you are a key member of a delivery team and work closely with other Engineers, Product Managers and Product Designers towards shared goals. In addition to building, testing, shipping, and running new features for our customer-facing apps and backend services, you and your team also move forward technical initiatives. You are a great contributor and help the team as a whole perform at its best.

YOUR MISSION

A Backend Technical Lead is a software engineer responsible for guiding the backend community and alignment of the technical direction. Providing a strong technical direction involves establishing a technical vision, resolving technical disagreements, ensuring the usage of appropriate engineering practices (such as CD or automated testing) and investing in continual improvements to tooling or technical debt to assure the platform meets changing needs and requirements. With a strong collaboration within the backend community, this role steers towards a common technical vision and is accountable for the quality of the technical deliverable of the respective team. This role has a strong focus on the technical aspects, or the “How”.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES / WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Take ownership of the backend technology stack and be a key contributor in the technical roadmap process
• Drive technical innovation, to grow scalability, security, and performance optimizations
• Take responsibility and lead larger technical projects that involve other communities like frontend, cloud or QA
• Cultivate technical excellence in the team by promoting best practices, being a mentor, observing the code quality and designing sound and reusable backend architectures
• Solve complex technical challenges to ensure robustness and performance of the plattform while building elegant and future proof solutions
• Represent and guide the Backend Community to foster communication, collaboration, and efficient decision making processes
• Contribute to the product roadmap by owning the aspects of sound architecture and the technical approach

YOUR PROFILE / WHAT YOU'LL NEED

• Degree in computer science, completed training as an IT specialist or comparable knowledge from practical experience
• At least 8 years experience with backend software development
• Excellent knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, REST, Hibernate, AWS, SQL and Docker
• Advanced knowledge of designing event-driven systems, observability and concurrency control
• Advanced understanding of the backend technologies landscape and interest and passion to learn and experiment with new technologies
• Participation in architectural discussions in all stages, such as initial planning, implementation, as well as refactoring
• A “you build it, you run it”-mentality
• The ability to work autonomously and in a result-oriented way
• Proficiency in English (both written and spoken) is required.

• Du denkst pragmatisch in Lösungen - es macht einfach Spaß Dich im Team zu haben
• Du bist immer offen für neue Technologien und Tools, kannst aber Trends von Hypes gut unterscheiden
• Ge: C1 – Fachkundige Sprachkenntnisse

• Language Enthusiast: A strong passion for languages and a deep understanding of grammar and linguistics.
